La Porte Bay House
Located on the client's childhood property in La Porte, Texas, this bayfront weekend getaway is organized in a centrifugal fashion, mimicking the hurricanes that frequent the gulf. The 3,200 sqft stone clad home locates the main activities of the great room and kitchen in the center of house, which is accentuated by curved glass windows that offer panorama of the coastline. Upon entering the home, visitors are greeted with curved wall paneling that hides storage beyond. A slotted display, lined in mirrored glass shards, provides for the display of the owner’s model boat collection. A curved stair wraps the great room, and directs circulation to the main entertainment space, bedroom suites and powder room. The centrifugal forces of the "hurricane design" extends the functions of the home by incorporating a 1,400 curved outdoor terrace deck with direct access from the master bedroom and exercise room, via large glass slider doors. Capping the roofline at the apex, a private "widow's walk" or lookout tower, clad in stone, teak and zinc, affords the client with unimpeded views of the sea, enjoying sunsets and nightly stargazing.
